Thursday Topper: 5 Things I miss from MTV

When I was a kid, MTV was still cool (it was so cool, I wasn’t allowed to watch it until middle school). Maybe it’s still cool now but it’s so very different. I remember having slumber parties and we would put MTV on, watch the video countdowns or rushing home from school to see what the highest rated video of the day was. Would it be ‘N SYNC or The Backstreet Boys?

When I put MTV on now, I can’t believe it’s even the same network. It’s changed so drastically in the past decade, I wonder if the viewers of today still get the same amazing information we got out of it.

5) MTV’s Undressed
This was a series about sex and relationships, nothing about it was conventional and that’s what made it so great. Each episode had three sets of characters at different ages, usually some high school kids, college students and a set of young adults. It didn’t shy away from much, if anything. You got to see couples at all stages trying to figure their relationships out. It was a fun program, one of course you wouldn’t watch with your parents. It not only entertained, it educated as well.

4) Road Rules
The first two seasons were my favorites, when it was pretty basic and they were just traveling around the country. Once the reality tv craze started, the show began to change too much from the original concept. I’m also sad the only video I could find on youtube was Kit buzzing all of Mark’s hair off.

3) The Real World
Back when they were still being real, they weren’t just there to party, hook up; they had real issues with each other and had to deal with them. They were real people, who the viewers could connect with. I think the last time I enjoyed a season of the show was Season 10 back to New York, but it really started to go downhill during Hawaii. My personal favorite seasons are the first 3, each are so simple but so different. If it weren’t for those 3 seasons, and the people on it I might not be the person I am today.

2) Kurt Loder
I admit it, I’m a news junkie. I started to watch news programming in middle school, one thing I loved about MTV was when something was going on that teens and twenty-something’s would be interested in, or affected by. He didn’t talk down to viewers which was great. He’s still around, writing and doing appearances on cable news, but it’s just not the same as when he was the face of the MTV News Department.

1) Music Videos/TRL
Sure if you get up early enough in the morning or are up late enough at night you might catch some music videos. It’s different now though, MTV is no longer Music Television. Gone are the days of hours of watching a bunch of videos on your TV. Sure we can go to youtube/vevo and watch the latest videos from our favorite artists. TRL is long gone, and really it became a shell of itself after Carson left (really how many hosts did they need to have to equal him), but then you got a mix of stuff. You would have Kid Rock battling it out against ‘N SYNC for the number one video.
Let’s not forget the incredible live performances, which at the time were amazing even if today they seem a little bit cheesy like this *N SYNC one.

Do you miss MTV the way it used to be? Is there a particular show you miss? Was there a show that had an impact on you and who you became today? Don’t be shy, leave a comment!

Summer Kick Off Giveaway!

image

So I decided that when I got to 275 twitter followers I would do another giveaway. I wanted to do something different this time.

Well summer is about to start, so why not kick off summer with a giveaway! Super simple and fun, right?

So below  you will find a rafflecopter, I’ve never used it before so I figured let’s give it a try this time.

I’ll be giving away ONE Digital Copy of Hello Again and ONE Digital Copy of Secret Fantasy. That means TWO winners.

If you’ve recently started to follow me then you now know one of my great loves, soap operas. Everyday you can find me live tweeting General Hospital. In the summer however, I get sucked into the reality show Big Brother. I started watching during the second season and have been addicted ever since. I’ll probably be live tweeting my reaction during live shows, maybe the live feeds, we’ll see how things go.

My new book Stranger in my Bed, which will be released in late June takes place during the summer months in Durango, CO. It’s the second book in the Hello Again series, and picked up where we left off with David and Lexie, along with all the others. If you’ve never had the chance to experience Durango in the summer, its amazing.

The town comes alive and is full of energy like nothing else I’ve experienced. The locals are out and about having fun, the tourists are exploring the historic downtown, riding the train, rafting and enjoying the sunshine.

I’ll post more about SimB next week though.

So now, here is your chance to enter to win one of my books.

Only two are mandatory, the rest are extra entries if you want.

Have fun, layer on the sunscreen and enjoy it while it lasts because summer will be over before we realize it.

CONTEST CLOSED WINNER NOTIFIED!

Thursday Topper: Netflix Edition

I don’t know about you, but my Netflix queue is jam packed with all sorts of stuff. I’m pretty sure I’ve got every single Crunch workout ready to go, and lots of old Television shows I didn’t watch when they were on the air, or  I only watched like the first season of.

The thing is, I tend to put stuff in the queue and forget about it. I usually only look at the actual queue if I’m going to do a Pilates work out, or when it’s late at night and I can’t sleep.

So here are the top 5 things on my queue I really need to watch sooner rather than later.

1) Felicity
I watched this show off and on, I was always more of a Dawson’s Creek girl. I actually have had this in my queue for a while, and today I actually went to add it again. #Fail

2) Flash Forward
I’ve seen every episode already, it was actually my favorite show the one season it aired. My boyfriend really enjoyed it as well, so maybe soon once everything we’ve been watching is done for the season we’ll take a few nights and re-watch the entire thing.

3) Indecent Proposal
I’ve never watched it, always wanted to. I actually just put it on the queue the other day, I just hope I don’t let it sit around waiting to be watched.

4) The Vampire Diaries
I’ve wanted to watch it, I adore Kevin Williamson (seriously, I dragged my boyfriend to the first showing of Scream 4 I could find). However I waited on it because of Twilight burnout. I think this is one I might try this summer—unless Big Brother distracts me.

5) Friday Night Lights
It was another one of those shows I always wanted to watch, I just never did. I’m determined now to watch it, at the very least to see Scott Porter and Kyle Chandler.

So do you have any items in your queue you’ve been meaning to watch, but skip over for one reason or another? Let me know in the comments.
